ROSCOE VILLAGE CLEAN AND GREEN DAY

This is a neighborhood cleanup day run by Roscoe Village Neighbors where everyone pitches in to clear out winter leftovers, think litter, debris, and whatever’s been hiding under melting snow all season.

For 2026, volunteers meet in the morning outside Commonwealth Tavern to check in, grab supplies like gloves and bags, and get assigned areas across Roscoe Village. You can register ahead of time or show up day-of and join in. They organize teams to cover different parts of the neighborhood, but it’s not rigid, you can keep it quick or stay longer depending on your situation.

You’ll see plenty of parents with strollers, kids carrying grabbers, and neighbors working their own blocks. It’s very doable with little kids because you’re not locked into a schedule.

It also doubles as one of those rare activities that sneaks in a life lesson without trying too hard. Kids get a very clear, real-world look at what happens when trash gets left behind, and how much better things look when people take care of their space. It opens the door to easy conversations about why littering matters, how small actions add up, and what it means to actually be part of a community instead of just living in it.

There’s no structured programming beyond the initial setup, which honestly works in your favor. You can keep it moving if your kid is chill, or bail quickly if things go sideways.

• Gloves, bags, and tools are provided at check-in (they’re adult-sized, so you can bring smaller gloves if you want something that fits your kid better)
